Decal Mastery: Water Slides, Dry Transfers, and Stickers Explained

Decals transform a good build into a great one by adding realistic warning markings, unit numbers, and insignias. Let's break down the three main types:
1. Foil & Clear Stickers
Included with almost every kit. They are easy to peel and stick but often leave visible raised edges. Use a hobby knife or tweezers for precise placement, and press down firmly with a cotton swab to eliminate air bubbles.2. Dry Transfer Decals (Master Grade Standard)
Often included in MG kits. You tape the decal down, rub the hard plastic backing with a rounded tool, and the ink transfers directly to the plastic. They look incredibly realistic because there are no clear edges, but you only get one chance to position them correctly!3. Water Slide Decals
The pro standard. You submerge the decal in warm water for 10-15 seconds until the film separates from the backing paper. Then, you gently slide it onto the model. To prevent "silvering" (tiny air bubbles trapped underneath), always apply water slides over a gloss-coated surface, and use setting solutions like Mark Setter and Mark Softer to melt the decal perfectly onto curved armor surfaces.Related Dispatches
